Tongue in Cheek: Mercedes Sends Centenary Greetings to Rival BMW

Mercedes-Benz has congratulated BMW on their centenary with a friendly advertisement and a less benevolent hint.

BMW received a “Happy 100th birthday!” message from its long-time domestic rival Mercedes-Benz in a cool little video posted on Facebook.

The video’s opening showed the signature BMW grille, but in the next five seconds it became clear how “The Three Pointer” outshines “the double kidney”.

The folks at Mercedes didn’t miss a chance to remind those at BMW that Mercedes has been around 30 years longer than the Bavarian automaker though.

“Thanks for 100 years of competition. The previous 30 years were a bit boring,” the blurb in the video read.

Mercedes-Benz was founded in 1886, a good 30 years before Munich-based BMW started its business.

Earlier “The Three Pointer” offered BMW staff free tickets to the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart “to discover the complete history of the automobile” from March 8 to 13. It also promised free parking spaces to the visiting BMW staff, closer to the entrance.
