Yemeni Houthis claimed to have carried out an operation against three American destroyers as they were heading towards Israel. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Sarea announced that the attack was carried out using 23 ballistic and winged missiles and a drone. The Houthi official claimed that the operation resulted in a direct hit against the three US destroyers.
The senior Yemeni military figure said the missile attack was the largest of its kind in the course of anti-Israeli maritime operations. The US Navy said its warships going through the Bab al-Mandab Strait intercepted a number of projectiles fired by the Houthi rebels.
US officials told Reuters that the projectiles included both missiles and drones, and there was no damage to any of the three warships in the area. “We did see a complex attack launched from the Houthis that ranged from cruise missiles and [drones],” deputy Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said.
