America First tax reform is here to stay, and so is citizenship-based taxation. Will the US ever give up this rigid system? Hardly!

For the first time in almost a century, politicians were seriously talking about the nation’s system of citizenship-based taxation and – for the first time in over a century and a half – they were actually considering changing that system and adopting a residence-based system instead.

The US is one of only two countries in the world that has citizen-based taxation, the other one being the east African nation of Eritrea. In the past Mexico, Romania, Bulgaria, Vietnam, and the Philippines all had citizenship based taxation, but have since abandoned the practice.
